Windy conditions on Saturday have knocked out power to thousands in Greater Columbus, with a high wind gust of 49 mph recorded at John Glenn airport.
High winds on Saturday have knocked out power in a number of locations across Columbus, Franklin County and the state, including four larger outages in Franklin and Delaware counties, as most of Greater Columbus remains under a high-wind warning through 8 p.m.Close to 2,400 customers are without power north of Hall Road, east of Norton Road, on Columbus' Southwest Side, with power expected to be restored by 3:30 p.m.
Another 1,548 customers have no power near Williams Road and Alum Creek Drive, on the Southeast Side and Obetz area. Crews are still assessing the situation. An additional 635 customers have no power south of Bethel Road, west of Reed Road, on the Northwest Side. Estimated restoration time is 3:30 p.m.And 2,237 customers are out east of Route 23, north of Olentangy High School, in the Lewis Center area in Delaware County. Estimated restoration time is 4:30 p.m.AEP Ohio spokesman Scott Fuller said about 20,000 customers are without power in AEP's service areas in the state.
The highest wind gust so far Saturday at John Glenn Columbus International Airport was 49 mph at 11:32 a.m., said Ashley Novak, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Wilmington in southwest Ohio. Novak said Greater Columbus residents should expect more strong gusts through 8 p.m., when winds will begin to die down.
