Special counsel Robert Mueller’s findings appeared to drive a dagger through unresolved claims that Trump campaign officials conspired with Russian operatives to interfere in the 2016 election, a gut punch to Capitol Hill Democrats who just launched an investigative offensive to dig up new evidence of the allegations.
But the findings, summarized in a letter to Congress by Attorney General William Barr, were inconclusive on whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice — a finding that gave Democrats new ammunition as they proceed with their own probe into the matter.
