One parent per child can claim Child Benefit from HMRC

More than a million people who claim Child Benefit are being warned as their payments could be stopped if they fail to act.

One parent per child can claim Child Benefit until the child turns 16, or until they turn 20 as long as they are still in approved education or training during this period. New Child Benefit rates came into effect earlier this year and a parent or carer can claim £25.60 for their eldest or only child, and £16.95 for each additional child, per week.

The letters, which are due to arrive between Friday, May 24, and Wednesday, July 17. will each include a QR code which, when scanned, directs straight to GOV.UK, where people can update their claims quickly and easily online.
