Hundreds of people are stuck in temporary accommodation and in hostels in Glasgow according to the latest homeless report.
The national statistics show while there was a fall in the number of homeless applications in the city it is still the second-highest total in the last 10 years.More than 3000 households were stuck in temporary accommodation.The statistics showed 3207 in that position, waiting for a permanent home to be available, an increase of just under 200 in a year.The figures showed on March 31 there were 665 households living in B&Bs in the city and 350 in hostels.
“This is a critical moment for Scotland. We can push on and take the first steps towards the end of homelessness, or we can watch as progress slips, with thousands of people forced to suffer the consequences.
“We remain in continual dialogue with all of our key partners including Registered Social Landlords, third sector, Home Office and Scottish Government about the impact of these pressures and will continue to seek solutions wherever possible. “The reduction in applications is a direct result of increased homelessness prevention activity and the ongoing work our homeless services do on a daily basis to help people avoid homelessness.”
