Gasoline prices in Houston fell again over the week, despite a significant rise in prices nationally.

The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in the the Houston area fell 2 cents a gallon to $2.94, down 25 cents from a month ago, but 28 cents higher than a year ago.Refinery outages along the West Coast and in the Midwest pushed the national average up 11 cents over the week to $3.78 a gallon. Prices nationally are about the same as a month ago and up 60 cents from a year ago.
Prices could rise further if OPEC and its allies decide to adopt a production of as much as 1 million barrels of oil a day when they meet this week. Oil was up more than 4 percent in early trading Monday to about $83 a barrel.
