Altuve, who plays second base, scored 103 runs, 39 doubles, and 28 home runs while tallying 18 stolen bases during the 2022 season. He is one of three American League players with an on-base plus slugging over .900. Alvarez, who plays outfield, has 37 home runs and 97 RBI while posting a 1.019 OPS. He is ranked second in the Majors with a hard-hit percentage of 59.8%.
According to MLB, Altuve previously won the award back in 2017, the same year the Astros won the World Series. Other players nominated include Yankees’ Aaron Judge, Mets’ Pete Alonso, and LA Angels’ Shohei Ohtani.The Hank Aaron Award was introduced in 1999, honoring the 25th anniversary of the late baseball legend breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record, according to MLB.
