Eventually, her father did learn to get by in the United States and married another immigrant, a woman from Egypt. Pascali has been fascinated by the experience of her parents and others and has spent the past several years building an artistic body of work on the subject. Aside from her music, she’s begun a project as the Spring 2022 Artist in Residence at Sawyer Arts Winter Street Studios called “The Other Side.
“This project uses visual art to create a space where musical, literary, film and lecture events are carried out by my band as well as other artists from Houston’s immigrant community,” says Pascali. “It uses music, poetry, film, writing and visual art to foster a sense of belonging by encouraging immigrants and first-generation Americans to build their own definition of what it means to be ‘American’ in their own unique way.
“Houston, America’s most diverse city, is home to over 1.7 million immigrants with stories that are seldom highlighted in mainstream media.
