Third generation owners to open a second restaurant this year, expanding the Lankford...
, Houston’s most iconic burger joint, is planning to expand for the first time in its 85-year history with a new location in Bellaire.
The Priors are the third generation to helm Lankford Grocery & Market, which was founded as a neighborhood fruit stand by Paul Prior’s grandfather in 1938. Prior’s mother, Eydie, ran the restaurant from the 1970s until she retired last year when Paul and Jessica assumed ownership. The new restaurant will simply be called Lankford’s, Prior said, to avoid ongoing confusion that it’s a market . Expanding the beloved burger restaurant has been contemplated for years, Prior said.
But Lankford’s has been a beloved classic in Houston for decades thanks to its lineup of oversize burgers that includes the signature Old Fashion ; the Texan ; the Midtown , the Houston , the Frito Pie Burger and Pimento Cheese Burger. Lankford’s also is known for its filling breakfasts and daily specials that include Tex-Mex classics, chicken-fried steak, and fried catfish and shrimp.
