It will also support junction and pedestrian upgrades on school routes to encourage walking and cycling to school.
Members of the City Administration Committee have agreed to use £4 million funding from TransportThis will see £2.5 million go towards the Connecting Battlefield scheme which will oversee the delivery of segregated cycle routes and improvements to public space to encourage walking, wheeling and cycling while £1 million will improve accessibility along the North East active travel route.
Part of the overall funding will deliver £4.06 million to support a range of active travel related activities including continued installation of next bikes stations, school bike shelters, cycle activated signage and junction improvements for visually impaired users. Councillor Angus Millar, convenor for transport, said: “This paper is yet another acceptance of funds. This time the committee is invited to accept £8.6 million of funds that the council has been successful in securing to support a range of active travel projects.
