On Sunday evening, May 21, 2023, Elon Musk's SpaceX successfully launched four private astronauts from Florida's Kennedy Space Center, marking Axiom Mission 2 as the world's second all-private astronaut mission. The Saudi astronauts will join former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson and US pilot John Shoffner in a mission organized by private space company Axiom Space, arriving at the ISS on Monday.

Barnawi said that she wants young Saudis and Arabs to “see astronauts from the region for the first time,” and to show them that Arab men and women can achieve their space aspirations.Anoushe Ansari became the first Muslim woman in space in 2006 Ansari's journey was made possible through her sponsorship of the Ansari X Prize, a competition that aimed to stimulate the development of commercial space travel. During her mission, she conducted a series of experiments, including biomedical research, aiming to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge.
