Once complete, the space shuttle would become NASA’s only spacecraft for more than a generation, and even though it was retired in 2011, we have yet to see its replacement, NASA’s new Space Launch System, fly.The space shuttle flew 135 missions from 1981 to 2011 and took 355 people to space—the majority of the humans who have ever left Earth.
