Doctors told DailyMail.com that while mammograms are considered the gold-standard for detecting breast cancer, the scans can still miss as many as one in eight cases due to various factors, including how small the tumors are and how dense the woman's breasts are. Munn revealed that she had taken a commercial genetic test in February 2023 that was billed as being able to spot 90 genes linked to cancer.

However, aging and having children can lead to fattier breasts. Dr Lee noted that breast density is measured during a woman's first mammogram, so she would not know if she has this until she undergoes testing.
