'How long should it take to get over a guy who ghosts?': Writer annielord8 investigates why she felt destroyed by a one-time date’s rejection.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw him in the restaurant: The guy I went on a date with who stopped messaging me. The one I became slightly obsessed with. It was as though I’d manifested it. I had spent so much time fantasizing about what would happen if we bumped into each other in a situation like this. I’d catch his eye and he’d look down at the floor, run a hand over his head, and he’d think about what a huge mistake he’d made.

“This isn’t a normal reaction to someone you’ve been on one date with,” responded a friend of mine when I told him how I was feeling. “I don’t want to invalidate what you’re going through. I’m not saying the hurt isn’t real. But I don’t think it’s about what you think it’s about.”“You think you’re crying because you want to be with him, right? But you don’t even know who he is.

When u lose an emotional attachment to someone, u realize how ordinary they are. It’s ur love n ur energy that makes people seem so special. Never worry about losing love because it’s within u n u are love... Therefore it’ll b found everywhere that surrounds u. I was the one who made my stomach turn. I was the one making myself twitch with desire. I was the one who made him so perfect. Therefore, the only person I need to make sure sticks around is me. I know my friend would tell me this isn’t a healthy way of looking at things. He’d tell me to stop looking out the bus window and inventing scenarios in my head. Stop judging people on who I think they have the potential to be and start judging them on their actions.
