Lancashire Police is facing criticism from the public, the media, and the government over its decision to reveal details of Nicola Bulley's personal life. The mother-of-two has been missing for more than three weeks, and officers say they thought transparency was the best course of action.
Police were concerned about inaccurate reports and startling rumours about a particular suspect, so they hired a hotel room and briefed members of the Crime Reporters Association on what was going on behind the scenes.
The senior detective revealed the complexities of the case and much of the circumstantial evidence his team were building against the suspect.
