Since the province introduced civil forfeiture legislation, more than $7.8 million has been approved for distribution from the fund for community safety initiatives, such as contributing money to victims programming, a missing children’s program, child exploitation units, police vehicles, surveillance equipment and training facilities.
“Criminals must not prosper from criminal activity,” then-Justice Minister Don Morgan proclaimed in 2008 when the act was first introduced.
