Counting on an opponent’s chaos, however, is not a strategy. Every Ukrainian understood this. While UkrainiansRussians may have flirted with the unlikely prospect that a coup would succeed, they knew better. When Prigozhin finally blinked and turned tail on Saturday night, most of the global audience blinked as well, and turned the channel. After 24 hours in the spotlight, the Wagner Group had given up its demands. The Russian president’s spokespersonthat the criminal case against Prigozhin—who, earlier that very day, had been accused of state treason and attempted revolution—would now be closed and the would-be coup leader would “go to Belarus” , his fighters offered blanket amnesty.
