Howard Webb - the head of the PGMOL, the governing body for referees - says Mateo Kovacic was fortunate not to have been sent off against Arsenal on Sunday.

Kovacic soon afterwards made a second challenge on Declan Rice and was not shown a second yellow, much to the dismay of the hosts. Webb says the City midfielder should have been given his marching orders after the second challenge.READ MORE: Etihad Stadium to host Euro 2028 matches after successful bid

Regarding the second challenge he said: "I do . Obviously VAR can't get involved for second yellow cards. When he reflects on it, he will realise the second one should have been a yellow card."
