Nearby, a young woman named Anastasia listened as she held a sign that said, “I am Russian, and I am against the war.” She did not give her last name, saying she feared retribution against her family, half of which is in Russia and half of which is in Ukraine. She said while her family in Ukraine is hiding in basements “terrified,” her Russian family is against the invasion but faces up to 15 years in jail if they speak out.
