Coriolanus Snow gets his origin story.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will have an original Coriolanus Snow prologue not featured in the book. Based on the Suzanne Collins prequel novel of the same name, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows the story of the 10th Hunger Games, where pre-president Coriolanus Snow trains and then falls for District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird .
According to Polygon, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will stray from the book in one Coriolanus scene. Producer Nina Jacobson spoke on the movie's opening shot, which features Coriolanus Snow as a child. This notably represents a change from how Collins’ prequel book opened. Check out Jacobson’s description of the sequence:
“People are literally starving and doing whatever they have to to survive during war. It’s an essential part of who he is and who he becomes.” The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes Shows A Different Take On President Snow Coriolanus Snow later becomes the infamous President Snow, who takes over as the leader of the Capitol. When The Hunger Games opens up, President Snow is over six decades older but is conniving and manipulative as he presides over the annual Hunger Games and the happenings of the Capitol.
Straying from the novel so early in the movie is a somewhat surprising choice for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Jacobson recently stated that the movie series depends on Collins’ Hunger Games books and that no future content would be created absent Collins’ novels. This suggests a fairly faithful adaptation to the book on which The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is based.
