Rain and storms over the Gulf of Mexico have caught the attention of the National Hurricane Center. Forecasters on Friday said they were keeping an eye on the northern Gulf, near the Louisiana coast, for possible development.

The disturbance had a low chance -- only 10 percent -- of becoming a tropical depression and was expected to head to the west over the next few days. That would make it less of a problem for Alabama and more of an issue for Texas. Forecasters think it will approach the Texas coast over the weekend, and it could bring more heavy rain to that area.
