A major hurricane is likely to hit the U.S., according to the forecast.
The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season is moving at the fastest pace in history, so fast that the normal list of storm names are going to run out, meaning storms will eventually have to be named after letters in the Greek alphabet, according to new forecasts.So far, there have been nine named storms, but historically, hurricane season doesn’t peak until mid-September, leaving several weeks in which forecasters expect more hurricanes, and stronger ones than have formed so far.
While storms may have formed at a faster pace so far than in 2005, they’ve been much less intense than what that season brought, which also had a record high 15 hurricanes, which are storms with sustained winds of 74 mph or higher, and a record high seven major hurricanes, which have winds of 111 mph or higher.
