The Conservatives’ triple lock plus promise ‘doesn’t make up for what happen to Waspi women’, says Pat Cregan
A 67-year-old Waspi woman says she has been forced to work two jobs after her retirement plans were thwarted, and has called on the Tories and Labour to put the plight of pensioners at the heart of their election campaigns.report by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman
The policy comes as both Labour and the Conservatives battle to woo pensioners ahead of July’s election, with both parties planning to keep the already existing triple lock on the state pension, which ensures it rises in line with the highest of inflation, average earnings, or 2.5 per cent.“It’s not going to make up for what happen to Waspi women. My generation got shafted,” she said.
“I would have liked to have been help my children when they were buying homes – my kids had to do that for themselves,” she added. Dean Butler, managing director for retail at Standard Life, said: “You can use the Government’s calculator to check when you’ll reach state pension age. If you don’t want to take your state pension immediately, you can also choose to defer it.
