Better still, it’s Lele’s second major cover moment this year: the modelIndia – a double whammy the designer describes as “really key”, given her British-Indian heritage. “Being an independent designer is challenging, each day there’s a new obstacle, a new thing that you’re learning,” she explains. But having her hard work recognised “makes it all worthwhile”. “You need these moments,” she says with a smile.
As ever, the Supriya Lele woman lies at the heart of the collection – which, at 26 looks, is her biggest to date. While putting together the core pieces, Supriya and her stylist, Emilie Kareh, constantly asked themselves: “Would we like that?”, “Would we wear that?”, “Would we find that interesting on a rail?”.
