After moving from New Zealand five months ago, no one could believe I had never visited the cultural institution of a JD Wetherspoon - but today, that all changed.
Since I moved to London five months ago from the sunny shores of New Zealand, there’s been one constant refrain I’ve heard from friends, flatmates and co-workers - “you’ve never been to a Spoons?!” That was true, until today. To change this once and for all, I decided that lunchtime on a Thursday was as good a day as any to head along to the Shakespeare’s Head in London's Holborn, chosen because TripAdvisor reviews rate it an impressive four out of five.
Suspiciously fast some might say, but I was ravenous so I tried not to ask too many questions. My first bite was delicious. Tender chicken, a slightly sweet and creamy sauce which paired beautifully with the buttery garlic naan. I had noted on ordering that the menu described the chicken tikka masala as having two chillies worth of spice - I felt this was very dramatic.
