The homemade Victoria Sponge is a star at this countryside cafe run by a Corrie icon's wife
If a soap opera was ever to be set in a village tearooms, you'd imagine it would be something like Morley Tearooms. Walk into this adorable little cafe on the edge of Wilmslow in Cheshire, and it's like you've ventured into the café version of Cheers.
While the food is undoubtedly the star, the café can boast its own showbiz storyline too. For the café is run by Emma Gleave, wife of Coronation Street icon Simon Gregson, aka Steve McDonald. The café itself has a range of tables inside, and there's also a bench of colouring pads and pencils for younger guests to enjoy. On sunny days you've also got the added bonus of a raft of outdoor seating too.Giant wodges of sponge cakes, in a variety of daily-changing flavours all stacked in shelves of tasty temptation. There's the likes of a classic chocolate fudge, carrot cake and lemon drizzle.
You can have it served with a little pot of cream or ice cream too. Incredibly, it's a mere £3.75 for this epic plate of sweet dreams. I ask her how she makes it taste so good but she laughs. I say seriously HOW does she make it - at this point she dashes off. She’s rightly keeping a recipe this good close to her chest.At this point, I should probably tell you there is a full menu of other food that isn't cake at the café. Indeed, punters all around me are tucking in to the hearty full cooked breakfasts , omelettes and toasties that are on offer.
