If you’re a lifelong resident of the Fylde like me, or even Lancashire as a whole, you’re most likely familiar with visiting the Blackpool Illuminations over the years.
As a child, these lights feel even bigger and brighter than they might do as you grow up, but that doesn’t mean their sparkles diminish in any way over the years. But your priorities do.As a kid, it was all about grabbing the bright light wands that are sold on the side of the street and eating as much sugar as humanly possible before your parents tell you enough is enough.
As Sophie Ellis Bextor pushed the button, my heart soared as the lights came beaming into existence. It's honestly quite a spectacular sight. And what I loved almost as much as seeing the lights come on was the cheers and whoops from the crowd, who were all clearly caught up in the same wonderous moment that I was.
That's the canny thing about the Blackpool Illuminations. They appeal to all. Everyone likes to look at them, every family who comes to see them in the next four months will have their own little ritual that makes their trip extra special.
