Ian Fitzgibbon made a mistake which landed right into the hands of police. The 29-year-old was jailed for 14-and-a-half years after being unmasked as the EncroChat user 'VimtoHawk' at Liverpool Crown Court today, Tuesday, July 16. Fitzgibbon was cleared of involvement in the murder of Ashley Dale during a trial before Liverpool Crown Court last year.
Fitzgibbon, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine and heroin, as well as acquiring/using/possessing criminal property. Sentencing Fitzgibbon, Judge Andrew Menary KC said: “It’s clear you were a reliable broker with a ready supply and an infrastructure to collect and deliver those drugs around the country. You were also operating your own lines. You were plainly therefore playing a leading role.
