People are sleeping in cars and avoiding returning to homes they fear could be cracked or damaged in the wake of the disastrous earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria yesterday
“Teams from the AFAD [Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency] fire department, and search and rescue are all here. We’re stuck with the relief teams, hundreds of cars, and thousands of people,” he said.
Others are avoiding returning to their homes for fear they may be cracked or damaged, according to aid workers. While “no significant destruction” has occurred in Kayseri, the group has organised a blood donation drive in a bid to help with relief efforts, the official said. “Both refugees and locals are subject to the additional sensitivities brought on by the disaster. However, one of the most vulnerable groups in this regard is those who are disabled. People who remain beneath the rubble, particularly those who are physically disabled, have a lower chance of getting out from there,” he said.
