Plans for The Haveli were previously withdrawn over concerns about the A52 but they're back again

A popular Indian restaurant is once again under threat after plans to turn it into a Starbucks resurfaced. The Haveli, on the A52 near Radcliffe-on-Trent, would be converted into a new coffee shop under designs recently submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council.

Restaurateur Suraj Pathak, who opened Haveli a decade ago, was relieved when previous plans for the coffee house were withdrawn in November - but they have now been resubmitted by landlord Calder Investment Properties. Planning documents reveal the proposals were withdrawn so the applicant could make changes requested by National Highways, which manages the A52.

The property hosted a Little Chef before it was renamed the Mewar Haveli in 2014. The application seeks planning consent for the reconfiguration of the car park, construction of a collection kiosk, external alterations and other ancillary works to accommodate a drive-thru unit in the restaurant building.Developers have said the existing car park would be reconfigured to provide a drive-thru lane and new pedestrian areas, including a marked pedestrian crossing.

Planning documents add the road to the car park, which comes off from the shared access road with the neighbouring petrol filling station, would be improved as part of the development. The access point will be in the same location but the property owner's planners have explained the access would be widened and new road markings introduced.

A representative from National Highways, which had previously raised concerns that led to the plans being redrawn, said the changed proposals were "unlikely to result in a detriment to the operation and safety of the A52 at this location". The planning application, submitted by Rapleys on behalf of applicant Calder Investment Properties Ltd, is pending consideration by Rushcliffe Borough Council.
