Anvictor Butler, 46, later turned himself into police and was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Dustin Phipps.
"Please, just stop," a witness heard a man say as he ran out of a gas station after seeing his car, a white Chevy, being driven away by someone else.
Police believe Phipps was trying to steal Butler's car when he was shot. Hadley, 39, said Phipps struggled with addiction. Every time he saw his brother, he tried to get him to enter treatment, Hadley said. Still, when he got the call, he wasn't expecting to hear Phipps had been shot and killed.The events leading up to Phipps' death began with what police believe was an attempted auto theft.
Butler ran out of the gas station and up to the car before firing one shot into the driver's window, according to the affidavit.The white Chevy traveled down Southeastern Avenue, abruptly left the road and continued to roll through yards, leaving behind car parts in its wake. The Chevy stopped after it ran through the fence of a house at the intersection of East Minnesota Street and Southeastern Avenue, where it crashed into a tree.
