Shaylisha Morrison was just 10 years old when she died
An inquest into the death of a ‘happy little girl’ has been opened. Shaylisha Morrison tragically died aged just 10 last month. Her mother Debbie previously told the Manchester Evening News she had told her daughter to 'get some sleep' after she became ill and began vomiting the day before her death on May 30.
An inquest into Shaylisha’s death was opened at Rochdale Coroners' Court on Friday by area coroner Catherine McKenna. Senior police coroners officer Paul Lever told the brief hearing Shaylisha had been off school suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting in the week before her death. The day of her death, he said Shaylisha had fallen asleep on the sofa and was later found deceased by her father.
He said police attended and established there no suspicious circumstances. Ms McKenna said she was awaiting the outcome of a post mortem and that she was not in a position to set an inquest date, but scheduled a review for September 30. On her daughter’s death, Debbie said: "It still doesn't feel real, I still don't believe that she's gone," said Debbie. "It's something I never in my life thought would happen.” Paying tribute to her daughter following her death, Debbie described Shaylisha as a 'happy little girl'.
