The 22-floor tower feels like a bit of a secret. The nondescript front door with no windows leads into a stylish but small foyer that doesn’t give hints as to what’s above or below. The Hotel Swexan in the Harwood District of Dallas is near Cedar Springs Road and N. Pearl Street. The building opens June 15, 2023, after five years of planning and construction.
In the basement is the nightclub Babou, named for artist Salvador Dalí's capricious pet ocelot. It has leopard-print carpet that leads into a quieter bar called the Library at Babou’s. Take the elevator up, and the sixth floor’s junior ballroom has a black-and-white marble floor like an elegant chess board. The views of Uptown are breathtaking.
Stillwell’s, the steakhouse on the hotel’s seventh floor, is now the most expensive restaurant in the 19-block Harwood District. The restaurant was named for West Texas rancher Hallie Stillwell, a woman in a man’s field in the early 1900s. Stillwell’s dining room is intended to be a power dinner or date-night spot, says Warren Richards, vice president of hospitality for Harwood Hospitality Group.
