After a corruption scandal last year shook public trust in the Wayne Township Trustees' office, candidates for the position are campaigning on the promise of cleaning up the mess.
On his first day in office, Bardon said he removed Lang as fire chief. He appointed former Westfield fire chiefto the role. Lang remains as an employee of the fire department, as Bardon does not have the authority to terminate him, Bardon said. That power lies with a merit commission, according to state law.
Scott, 61, a former firefighter, making his second political run for an office after an unsuccessful bid in the Republican primary for an Indiana House seat in 2012. Having served the Wayne Township Fire Department for 22 years and as a firefighter for 36 years, he said the experience helped him develop compassion for vulnerable residents.
Scott said one of his priorities, if elected, would be exploring alternative ways to help the many people who are in need of emergency assistance but unable to qualify for it under restricted state guidelines. One of his goals is to establish a mobile medical unit that would serve lower income families in need of medical care who lack transportation.
