NASHVILLE — For the third consecutive season, the Colts have failed to take advantage of an opportunity to beat the Titans, leaving them looking up at their rivals for the rest of the season in the race for the AFC South.
Indianapolis is now far behind the Titans in the AFC South race, putting the Colts’ back against the wall once again.Indianapolis tried to run it back with the strategy that worked against Jacksonville. But Tennessee clearly built its game plan around taking that option away. The Titans attacked short routes aggressively all day, limiting the Colts’ yards after the catch and forcing Ryan to try to make plays downfield.Faced with a free rusher coming off the edge on the first promising Indianapolis drive of the afternoon, Ryan tried to get the ball out to Parris Campbell.
When all was said and done, the Colts’ loss Sunday largely came down to the two big mistakes from Ryan, and his inability to come back from it and turn around.Indianapolis limited Derrick Henry to just 3.5 yards per carry on his first 27 touches, and aside from a couple of key completions, including a miraculous grab by tight end Austin Hooper, the Colts kept Ryan Tannehill in check.
