'Insult to the rule of law': White House rips .realDonaldTrump for Dobbs reporter arrest call
Freedom of the press is part of the bedrock of American democracy, according to White House spokesman Andrew Bates. Trump's statements"are not who we are as a country, and they are what we stand against in the world," he added."Calling for egregious abuses of power in order to suppress the Constitutional rights of reporters is an insult to the rule of law and undermines fundamental American values and traditions," Bates wrote.
The Supreme Court this week released the findings of its investigation into the leak, which did not uncover the source of the story into the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. On the eve of what would have been Roe's 50th anniversary, Trump urged Supreme Court Marshal Gail Curley and other investigators"go to the reporter [and] ask him/her who it was."
"If not given the answer, put whoever in jail until the answer is given,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, his own social media platform. “Arrest the reporter, publisher, editor - you’ll get your answer fast. Stop playing games and wasting time!”The court also commented on the 20-page document: “The leak was no mere misguided attempt at protest. It was a grave assault on the judicial process.
