Anna Sorokin (a.k.a. Anna Delvey) opens up about how accurate the Netflix drama InventingAnna is compared to her real-life family dynamics.
Anna Sorokin has opened up on Inventing Anna's depiction of her family dynamics and agreed that her family didn't know quite what to do with her. Delvey is the real-life subject of Netflix's latest drama miniseries Inventing Anna. Inspired by the New York Times article,"How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People" by Jessica Pressler, the series investigates the true story of the infamous scammer.
The series follows journalist Vivian Kent as she investigates the case of Delvey , a woman under trial for posing as a German billionaire heiress to steal millions from New York's elite society. Much of Kent's investigation strives to tell the real story of Delvey and how exactly the woman came to be charged and convicted of grand larceny and theft. Part of that investigation leads Kent to Germany to speak with Delvey's family.
Generally, I would definitely agree that my parents did not really know what to do with me....We just have different interests. I don't feel like my parents were really involved in like day-to-day life. Sometimes, they would not even know what country I'd be in. There would definitely be a time they didn't know if I was like in Paris, Germany, or the states. I just never really needed the approval with my parents. I guess I was just doing my thing.
Delvey's statement not only gives insight into the accuracy of Inventing Anna, but insight into what led to her infamous case, as well. Inventing Anna was able to touch on Delvey's tense family dynamics, but the story goes a bit deeper than that. There wasn't quite tension in Delvey's family, but more a lack of connection and communication. This also better explains how she became entangled in a scamming case as her family dynamics gave her freedom to do what she wanted.
While Delvey has previously stated that she won't be watching Inventing Anna, she does still remain involved in the series. Garner visited Delvey in prison while preparing for the role and Delvey has been open about discussing the show, its accuracy, and her current situation. From her comments on family dynamics, it seems the show is adhering to a somewhat accurate depiction of her story.
