Police say a 3-year-old girl who died inside a San Jose church was a victim of child abuse, while members tried to ward her of “evil spirits.”
According to court documents, Hernandez took her to the church believing she was possessed by a demon because she would sometimes wake up at night screaming or crying.
In the 43-minute video Hernandez posted, she talks multiple times about her little girl without specifically talking about how she died. “It is exceedingly rare in the United States to hear about these kinds of stories,” said Christopher Moreman, chair of philosophy and religious studies at CSU East Bay.
