The Department of Treasury announced sanctions on Wednesday against Iran's Prosecutor General and top military officials over the country's crackdown on protests.

Iran has been roiled by mass protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who died after being taken into custody by the regime's so-called morality police for allegedly not wearing a hijab. The sanctions announced Wednesday include Iranian Prosecutor General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, who issued a directive in late September for courts to issue harshIranians protests the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini after she was detained by the morality police, in Tehran, Oct. 1, 2022.
