Moscow and Tehran have reached an agreement for the latter to begin manufacturing hundreds of unmanned weaponized aircraft intended for use in Ukraine, according to a new report.
Leaders from Russia and Iran have grown much closer over the course of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the two sides finalized this latest deal in a meeting in Iran in early November. Officials told the outlet that the agreement, if it is successful, which would provide them with their own assembly line, could allow the Russians to increase its stockpiles that have created a new wave of terror in Ukraine over the last couple weeks significantly.
National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson did not address the details of this purported newly finalized agreement but told the Washington Examiner, “Iran and Russia can lie to the world, but they can’t hide the facts: Tehran is helping kill Ukrainian civilians through the provision of weapons and assisting Russia in its operations. It’s another sign of how isolated both Iran and Russia are.
“The United States — with allies and partners — is pursuing all means to expose, deter, and confront Iran’s provision of these munitions and Russia’s use of them against the Ukrainian people. We will continue to provide Ukraine with the critical security assistance it needs to defend itself, including air defense systems,” Watson added.
More recently, the U.S. State and Treasury Departments have announced sanctions against the individuals and entries that contributed to Russia’s acquisition of Iranian drones, as Russia has used them to pummel Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
