Admiral Lord Alan West warns that Arab state leaders could face a repeat of the Arab Spring if they do not listen to citizens demanding action against Israel
One of the UK’s most senior military figures has warned that a ceasefire is needed in the Israel-Hamas war to prevent the conflict spreading across the Middle East.that the risk of escalation had increased due to pressure on Arab state leaders from civilians to act against Tel Aviv.
“The Arab street feels very strongly about what they see as the inhumane actions of the Israelis, effectively killing Palestinian women and children in Gaza,” said Lord West. “They are in uproar about it.” The Admiral believes that if Hezbollah was at war with Israel in Lebanon then other Arab nations such as Syria, Iran and Yemen would join the hostilities.
Another leading British military figure suggested the UN Security Council could vote for a ceasefire to allow negotiations on hostages and for peace talks to begin. “Hamas will not be able to destroy the state of Israel and Israel will not be able to destroy Hamas.”
