The Israeli prime minister has given the most direct indication yet that his country plans to maintain control over Gaza after its war with Hamas. Meanwhile, Israel's military claims it has secured a 'Hamas stronghold' in northern Gaza and killed militants in an airstrike.
We're now hearing from Colonel Elad Goren, the head of Israeli defence ministry agency the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories .The agency engages in coordinating civilian issues between the Palestinian Authority and Israel. He says COGAT has created a team to investigate the humanitarian situation in the Strip, and shares its findings.
Medical equipment is manged by Hamas, which chooses what to keep for itself and what to supply to hospitals, he says. 'There is no food shortage,' he says and adds '90% of Gaza's drinking water comes from Gaza,', before claiming that Hamas struck one of the other major supply lines from Israel on 7 October, disabling it.He says that other lines were established, with Israelis 'putting themselves in danger' to allow more water into Gaza.
