Israel's prime minister has been speaking to troops at the border after the window for the evacuation of Palestinians to flee from the north of Gaza along two main routes without being harmed ended.
There is no power, water or fuel in Gaza and food is running 'dangerously low', the UN's aid chief has warned. In a statement posted to X, Martin Griffiths said hospitals there are 'overwhelmed' and 'running out of medicine'.The humanitarian situation in Gaza is 'fast becoming untenable', he wrote.
Mr Griffiths said Gazan homes, schools, health centres and places of worship have been bombarded, with some entire areas 'razed to the ground'.He said rhetoric from both sides of the conflict has been 'extremely alarming and unacceptable'.'Even wars have rules, and these rules must be upheld at all times, and by all sides,' he said, saying civilians must be allowed to leave for safer areas.
