An Israeli airstrike hit Gaza's border crossing with Egypt on Tuesday, forcing trucks carrying Egyptian fuel and goods for the Palestinian territory to pull back, according to a border employee on the Gazan side. It was the second time in 24 hours that Israel had struck the area; an Egyptian border worker said the first strike was on Monday afternoon. The crossing at Rafah is the only border crossing in Gaza not controlled by Israel, which has imposed a blockade on the strip since 2007.
The Israeli defense ministry on Monday declared a 'complete siege,' cutting off two million Palestinians from water, electricity and fuel. Richard Hecht, spokesman for the Israeli military, said on X that he wasn't aware if the border crossing was still open. The Palestinian ministry of interior said in a statement on its Facebook account Tuesday that Egyptian border administrators told workers to leave the area due to the risk of bombing.
