President Biden said in an Oval Office address that supporting the security of both Ukraine and Israel was critical to buttressing the U.S.-led global order. He called on Congress to pass an aid package to fund wars in Ukraine and Israel.
President Biden told donors Friday that his efforts to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia are part of the reason Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel.
“One of the reasons why they acted like they did…why Hamas moved on Israel…because they knew I was about to sit down with the Saudis,” Biden said during a Washington fundraiser Friday evening. Biden added: “Guess what? The Saudis wanted to recognize Israel…unite the Middle East.” The Biden administration has been pushing Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel, an effort that has been put in jeopardy after the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks.
