Mike Brest is a defense reporter at the Washington Examiner. President Joe Biden sent Congress a supplemental funding request on Friday that totals more than $100 billion and includes more than $60 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel.
The supplemental request includes about $61.4 billion for Ukraine, half of which will help the Department of Defense replenish its stockpiles that had been depleted by its previous aid to Ukraine. $14.4 billion will go to the department for continued military and intelligence support, and $16.3 billion will go to the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development for economic, security, and operational aid.
"Funding will expand production lines, strengthen the American economy, keep us safe, and create new American jobs," Director of the Office of Management and Budget Shalanda Young told reporters."This request also addresses the global humanitarian impacts of Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine and of Hamas's horrific attacks on Israel, including by extending humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.
