Nadine Dorries was wrong to claim last month that it costs £500,000 of public funds to train a doctor. But it may end up costing this much to train some surgeons. We’ve dug into the figures on the cost of training doctors.

But the approximate cost of training a GP or a surgeon may be “nearly half a million”, as she said in her newspaper article.The claim from Ms Dorries about doctors moving abroad came in two slightly different forms.
