Only four months into his tenure at Vicarage Road, head coach Valerien Ismael finds himself being offered a new contract.
Head coach Valerien Ismael is very relaxed about talks he is having with club officials about a new contract, but says the fact those conversations are even happening are another tangible sign there is change behind the scenes at Vicarage Road.
However, even with only two wins the quite obvious difference in approach, squad and mentality makes the new contract less surprising than would ordinarily be the case.The Hornets have become renowned for their lack of stability rather than any patience when it comes to head coaches. Despite both owner Gino Pozzo and chairman Scott Duxbury saying at fan events this summer that they accepted there needed to be change, supporters and media alike were understandably sceptical – and with one international break gone and two more to come in 2023, many wondered if Ismael would go the way of many of those who preceded him.
“For me it is just confirmation that we are going the right way. It is confirmation that we are doing the right things,” he said.
