Pence also said “all options are on the table,” a nod to the idea that America could use military force against the Maduro regime.
Maduro retains the loyalty of much of the country’s military, even as millions of Venezuelans face starvation. In January, President Donald Trump and many other world leaders recognized Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó as the legitimate leader of the country after he declared himself “interim president.” Pence met with Guaidó in Colombia ahead of his speech Monday. A day earlier, a Guaidó spokesman tweeted that the opposition leader would ask the U.S.
