Everton are interested in Lyon centre back Jake O’Brien as the club switches focus to the defence during a busy summer transfer window. The 23-year-old has long been on the radar of the club and that attention is understood to have now intensified. It comes after the completion of the deal that brought Jesper Lindstrom to Goodison Park in what was the club’s fourth summer signing.
However, while the talisman was present at Salford City for Everton’s second pre-season friendly of the summer, he was not part of the matchday squad. Everton have not provided further information on the extent of his injury. While the hope will remain that Tarkowski, an ever-present last season, is not seriously injured, the problem highlighted Everton’s issues at the back.
