Celebrity stylist Jamie Mizrahi has had a fashion-filled few months. Fresh off the launch of The Kit, a range of functional undergarments, last night saw the launch of her first clothing collection, an 18-piece capsule line designed for the online clothing rental platform Rent the Runway.
Mizrahi was approached by Rent The Runway’s cofounder Jennifer Hyman earlier this year to work on the company’s first foray into ‘tastemaker lines’, exclusive collections only available through on the platform. “Jamie is my favorite stylist ever and I always dreamed of working with her,” said Hyman of the collaboration. “We came with data around what millions of women are wearing and what they are looking for in terms of fit and fabrication and she’s come in with the design aesthetic.
“When RTR contacted me I was like ok I’ve heard of it maybe I should do something with them. The sustainability of renting is so important and I think something that we are going to see more of in fashion,” said Mizrahi. “I went on the site and I ordered two Proenza Schouler dresses, a Marni sweater, and a pair of Oscar de la Renta earrings that I still have.
The collection, inspired by Mizrahi’s everyday wardrobe, features plenty of the slip skirts and big sweaters, paired with oversized coats that make up her signature look—a style that clearly vibed with the assembled group. “I wanted to make sure that everything in the collection worked well together and could be styled in all different ways from day-to-night and work-to-dinner,” Mizrahi explained as the evening came to a close.
